To keep this review short and to the point, this game is a total surprise and the most fun I have had in a long time playing a game. Simple concepts can sometimes be the most fun. I barely fish in real life, but in this game I could fish for hours and hours. The graphics for the water, sky, fish are very nice, though graphics for some trees, docks, buildings can be rather average. Water detail will vary from dark and murky to clear and full of rays of sun light depending upon the lake and weather conditions. There are 7 lakes to choose from, and each come with different times of day, season, and weather condition to choose from. There are 30 different fish in the game, many dozens of lures to choose and unlock, 3 types of fishing boats, gear for your male or female fisherman to wear, and so on. There is a main tournament mode where you have so many minutes to complete the tournaments objectives and beat the other 30+ fisherman. There are many, many things to unlock in the game; there... I have only played this game for a few short sessions. So far, it seems like a game that's enjoyable and could be quite addictive.

A few things I don't like (all related to when you're reeling a fish in)
- You need to only reel in when the fish is in the center of the screen. So when the fish goes to the left, you twist the pole to the right. It's not intuitive, and in no way resembles a "real" fishing experience.
- It's not intuitive whether or not the line is about to break. They show a 2/3-prong hook, and one of the prongs sometimes goes yellow or red.
- If you're doing well, the screen sometimes gives you the opportunity for a "power move". I haven't read the manual, but so far, I think "power move" translates to "doing this will guarantee that the fish gets away." I don't get it. I would think a "power move" would help me.
- Apparently there's an objective to fishing trips, but it wasn't obvious. But I didn't read the manual...

I have found that it is very hard to drive the boat. Casting is also challenging and reeling the lure in has to be done according to the games specifications. Finding the specified fish that is called for in the Tournaments is also hard. I much prefer The Strike by Bass Pro Shop. In the Strike you can reel the lure in the way you prefer. Casting takes some practice, but is much easier than the casting in Rapala's game. The boat seems easier to handle and the fish are easier to find for the Tournaments. Winning the Tournaments and progression in the Strike is easier, although it can be just as challenging as the Rapala Pro Bass Fishing. The Rapala I have found is just frustrating to be any fun. The Strike's graphics are much better than Rapala's and are more lifelike to actual fishing. If you want a fishing game I would recommend The Stike over the Rapala Pro Bass fishing. I have been very disappointed in the Rapala and have found myself returning to play The Stike instead of... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but not Extraordinary, October 7, 2009

This review is from: The Price is Right 2010 Edition (Video Game)
I waited to get TPIR 2010 edition after reading good reviews about the previous edition.

Let's break it down:

Graphics: Nothing special. It appears that this game, along with Press Your Luck and Family Feud 2010 all have the same basic graphics. Good but not great.

Fun: I really enjoyed the pricing games for actual products- and actual video from the game show. My only complaint is me wanting to be more accurate in the pricing games- for instance they show you a bag of IAMS cat food and ask you to price it. I have 2 cats- I know cat food, but I didn't know what size bag they were talking about, and ended up being way off in the price. It is minor details like that that can be a bit frustrating, especially if you consider yourself a pretty good shopper!
I played this game alone and with my husband. If you play alone you get two options: three strikes mode and classic mode.
Classic Mode takes you through an entire game show. So, if you don't... Read more

I own both The Price is Right and the new 2010 version, and while there are some definite improvements over the original, there are several changes that I'm not sure are for the better.

In the original, you choose between 8 different avatars, and I never found one that really fit me. (The brunette avatar's cheer is somewhere between a too-happy band conductor and Calista Flockhart having a seizure -- it's not pretty.) In 2010, you choose between 16 avatars, and if you choose to save your profile, you can customize that avatar's hair and clothing. There is some hair and clothing available when you start; the rest you unlock in single player mode. This is a definite improvement over the original; at least there is some variety.

The graphics are improved as well; the set looks more impressive and the players aren't... Read more

Awesome gaming experience! It's actually a big improvement over the previous version as the graphics are superior and the graphs are impressive. There are also twice as many games as in the previous version so it makes it all that much more interesting. Being a veteran gamer I can totally recommend TPIR 2010 to anyone!

I must preface this review by stating that I have been a fan of the NCAA Football series since it was "Bill Walsh Football". I have become accustomed to each year only having a few updates and modest improvements and those have been enough to satisfy my needs as a college football enthusiast.

THIS LATEST INSTALLMENT LEAVES MUCH TO BE DESIRED.

I play this game as follows: 50% of the time is spent in dynasty mode, 25% is spent playing against friends, 25% is spent playing online. With that said, dynasty mode is the mode that I obviously really focus on. I was alarmed to find out as soon as I booted up dynasty mode that it starts soliciting you to buy "add ons" that you would think would be standard. You have to pay an additional $2.50 per add-on ($12.50 for the total dynasty add-on package) -via the PSN store- to have things such as a second pipeline state, a recruiting advisor etc.

EA could have greatly improved dynasty mode this year by releasing... Read more

EA Sports has finally made a challenging football game. Playing the CPU on Heisman mode is like playing last year's Madden on Your Level. The game now adapts to the way you play just like a real (good) coach does. You can't run that option over and over, you will get stuffed!

In addition to making CPU play harder and more realistic, there is a new mode called Season Showdown where you chose your favorite team and everything you do on and offline gets tallied toward an end of the season winner. In Season Showdown mode, you get points based on many categories including Skill (making certain plays yourself), Strategy (Choosing the upcoming play type while on defense and successfully stopping it), and Sportsmanship ( where good sports that don't go for it on 4th get points and those that do or run up the score get them taken away). There is also an online trivia component where you go to the EA Sports website and answer 10 trivia questions each week for points. During the... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game, Bad Ideas, August 5, 2009
By
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 10 (Video Game)
I purchased each game in the series for many years. Not much has really changed in the last few years, so I didn't expect too much from this one either. The gameplay is imporved from last year dramatically. The CPU is more intelligent and seems to react to what you are doing better (such as coverage, play calling, audibles, etc). However there are time when you really wonder (such as when the CPU calls a quarter defense when you are in the goal line formation running the clock down). The graphics are imporved, however they are not as polished as they should be for a next gen game (at times they are SLOW). The plays themselves are a copy from last year, no change (could be negative or positive).

I mostly play the dynasty mode and that is where my main grips are. In order to be really competative in a online (or just a normal dynasty unless you choose the easiest settings or re-sim everything 20 million times to get perfection) you really are going to feel the need to... Read more
